Lemonade is a company with really good customer satisfaction. You don’t get a 4.9 user review rating by accident, and one of the things reviewers comment on is the speed with which Lemonade pays claims: 30% are handled straight away.

Not only are Lemonade B-corp certified, but one of the cool things about them and their claims process is that it can be done through their app. You just tap the ‘claims’ button and describe what happened – if your claim is instantly approved by Lemonade’s ingenious bot, Maya, it will be paid in three minutes. How easy is that?!

Getting your beloved pet covered through Lemonade also means helping to do a bit of good, too. The company donates to plenty of good causes throughout America – last year, they gave shelter and life-saving care to nearly 30,000 rescued animals.

FACT! Lemonade are top-rated by Supermoney and Clearsurance.

Lemonade gets a lot of points for speed – its AI software approves claims in minutes – and its simple plans are seen as good value. However, the plans are less comprehensive than some.

I just started insuring with Lemonade, as I needed to take care of some pre-existing medical needs (osteotomy) prior to also affording cost of insurance. Very easy process.

Elliot is my first dog, and I knew nothing about pet insurance before getting him. I happened to use Lemonade for renter’s insurance, and they released their pet insurance the same time I got Elliot, so they just seemed like the easiest option for me.
I did the math and what I paid for the plan over the course of a year was just about what they paid me back for things I would need to buy for him anyway like vaccines and tests, so it seemed affordable. On top of the things you would need to buy anyway, they would then cover a large portion of “surprise” vet visits. Elliot ended up getting a $3,000 vet bill for an accident he had which I assumed I would be on my own for, and having the feeling that I couldn’t afford to take care of my dog was one of the worst things in the world. Luckily, Lemonade ended up covering 80% of that cost, which was extraordinarily helpful.
It’s really easy to file claims or even just ask questions, they have a very thorough automated system that lets you file and process claims usually within a day. They always make a point of letting you know the person who reviews your claim, and they are always super sweet.
Another great thing they do is make their contracts super easy to read. They send you a new contract every year in plain English (no confusing legal terms) and include graphs, images, and examples to help explain what your plan covers. It also gives helpful overviews of how insurance works in general, like explaining what a deductible is. The app also keeps a real-time total of which benefits you’ve used, so I never forget what I can still get reimbursed for.
My rate has gone up a couple dollars a month every year, and I’m not sure if it’s a normal industry standard rate or a specific rate based on his plan/health, but I am assuming that is just the nature of these types of plans. I am not concerned that I no longer have a good deal, but since the rate of increase seems to be arbitrary and Elliot is a young dog, I would love more up-front information about how his plan will change over time. Again, I’m sure this is the case at any pet insurance company, but as someone new to pet insurances looking to insure a young dog this is something I wish I was able to figure out beforehand.
TLDR; I don’t know much about any other pet insurances, but I can say I would definitely recommend Lemonade as a first time pet owner.

My claims go through so quickly and the money is in my account within a couple days! No hassle and it’s fairly inexpensive even with the add ons I put on for his package

So thankful I decided to proceed with Lemonade because just a few months after starting insurance, my dog Harvey started having extreme gastro issues that required emergency visits, labs, and medication. The actual visit is not covered, but 80% of everything else is less your deductible. Lemonade saved my butt and reimbursed over 60%. Definitely grateful that I have a policy with Lemonade and the customer service is great..
