Founded in 1884, the American Kennel Club has plenty of history with dogs, but its pet insurance is a comparative newcomer, having been around for just over 20 years.
Known for being competitively priced, AKC has five different levels of its CompanionCare plan, which differ only in their coverage limits and deductible options. There is a free 30-day trial.
However, exams, preventative care and dental care are not covered, and while pets over nine years old may be enrolled, illness coverage is not offered for dogs and cats over this age.
FACT! AKC Pet Insurance’s history can be traced back to 1984, when Sir John D. Spurling created a pet insurance company for the Kennel Club of Great Britain
