How does Pets Best pet insurance work?

Submitting a claim is easy with Pets Best – just upload a photo of your invoice to your customer portal using the website or Pets Best app. This is also where you will find your policy documents, check the status of your claims, and add additional pets to your policy. You’ll pay a monthly fee which depends on several factors such as the age and breed of your pet, your location, and policy options such as your annual limit and reimbursement percentage.

The benefits of Pets Best pet insurance

Some pet owners like to keep things simple with one pet insurance plan, but those who like choice will love the variety of plans with Pets Best. The customization available for policies is extensive plus there are optional wellness plans to cover routine care. One of the biggest and rarest benefits that Pets Best offers is the Vet Direct claims option. This means your reimbursement is paid directly to your vet post-treatment and you simply settle the rest of the bill – helpful if you don’t have a lump sum available to pay the bill in the first place.

Pets Best plans explained

Pets Best is a flexible insurer, offering three core plans to suit different budgets and requirements. The Essential plan covers surgeries, emergency treatment and surgeries, while the Plus plan offers all this plus veterinary exam fees. Finally, the Elite plan includes rehabilitation, chiropractic treatments and acupuncture. The pricing of these plans varies case by case, depending on the age, breed, and location of your pet. Plus, you can select your maximum annual limit ($5,000 or unlimited), your deductible options and your reimbursement options. There’s also a basic fixed-rate accident-only plan which is the most affordable and applies to animals of all ages and breeds. The two wellness plans that Pets Best offer are optional add-on policies which cover everyday treatment.

What does Pets Best pet insurance cover?

It’s great to have full coverage options in the event of an accident or illness but sometimes this might not be affordable. With Pets Best you can choose your reimbursement level to be either 70%, 80%, or 90%. What’s covered will depend on the plan you’ve chosen but most plans can be used for the cost of skin and ear infections, emergency care, surgeries, prosthetics, dental issues, congenital conditions, and illness. Like most providers, Pets Best will not cover pre-existing conditions, non-medical costs, or avoidable issues where treatment has been missed.

Customer support is ranked highly among our reviewers who received fast communication and a 3-day waiting period for accidents. The 24/7 Pet Helpline provides advice, support, and emergency care around the clock.

How do I contact Pets Best?

Pets Best can be reached via phone (1-877-738-7237), fax (1-866-777-1434) or a direct message on its social media channels – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter. What is Pets Best’s claims process?

Download a claim form from your online customer portal and send it via email, fax or even in the post. The quickest way, though, is to submit a claim using the Pets Best app. Just take a photo of your invoice, upload it to the app, and answer a few questions about your claim. Sometimes Pets Best will require your pet’s medical records to check for pre-existing conditions. If your claim is approved, you will be reimbursed in line with your reimbursement level minus the deductible policy amount. This will be paid into your bank account if you have provided your bank details. If you have not provided this information a check will be mailed to the address on your customer portal.

How much will Pets Best pay for my claim?

Pets Best pays up to 90% of vet bills, depending on the reimbursement level you selected for your policy, reimbursing a direct percentage of your claim minus the deductible amount.

Are there any exclusions?

Luckily for your furry friend, Pets Best doesn’t have an upper age limit for its insurance plans, so any pet aged over 7 weeks can register for cover. However, like most providers Pets Best plans do not cover pre-existing conditions, elective and preventive procedures, parasites, non-veterinary expenses, and holistic or experimental therapies. The basic fixed-rate accident-only plan has the same exclusions but also does not cover illnesses, routine care, acupuncture, or chiropractic treatment. Routine care coverage is not included in the insurance plans and is an optional add-on.

What are the waiting periods for conditions?

Routine care coverage can be used as soon as your policy effective date. Other waiting periods are three days for accidents, 14 days for illnesses, and six months for cruciate ligament conditions. Double-check the waiting period for your policy with your customer portal.

How quickly does Pets Best pay claims?

The quickest way to receive your claim payment is by direct deposit which takes up to two days to reach your account. If you have chosen to receive your claim by check you should receive this within 5-7 days of your claim being processed. You can choose your payment method in your customer account.

Can I customize my Pets Best plan?

Yes, you can change your coverage level whenever you like using your customer portal. When you initially sign up for a Pets Best plan you will be able to select your coverage limit, deductible option, and reimbursement percentage. You can also choose to add-on a wellness plan for an additional monthly fee which will cover routine veterinary care.

State availability for Pets Best

Pets Best offers insurance at any licensed veterinary clinic in the US or Canada. This includes emergency and speciality clinics.

Verdict: Is Pets Best pet insurance good?

Our reviewers enjoyed the flexibility and customization of Pets Best pet insurance plans. There’s a range of coverage for all budgets which each provide the same benefits such as 24/7 helpline and access to your own customer portal. Claims can be submitted quickly and easily online via the website or app, and waiting periods are short minus the longer wait for cruciate ligament issues. Although we see most insurers excluding pre-existing conditions, it's important to be aware that Pets Best do not cover parasitic infections or preventative treatments.
