Overview

One of the newer names on the block, ManyPets began in the UK as a pet insurance comparison site called BoughtByMany but decided it could do things better than the providers it was comparing and began offering its own plans in 2017. It expanded to the US and quickly become a major player in the pet insurance market, offering incentives for anyone transferring from another insurance company. Its biggest selling point is the simple policy plan which provides wide coverage and has no cap on annual pay outs. They’re also very competitively priced.

How does ManyPets pet insurance work?

You enter some very basic details about your cat or dog, your zip code, and then you get a premium that you can tweak by changing the levels of co-pay and reimbursement levels (70% or 80%), a preventative and wellness option, plus a list of what’s included/excluded.

The benefits of ManyPets pet insurance

The ability to choose your co-pay and reimbursement levels is a great feature, allowing a lot of flexibility. It also covers pre-existing conditions if your pet has been symptom- and treatment-free for 18 months, which you don’t get with all providers. There are no restrictions or annual limits.

ManyPets plans explained

While your contributions are flexible, the plans are pretty simple. There’s an accident and illness plan and a preventative and wellness plan, which covers treatments like wellness exams, vaccines, dental cleanings and other preventative measures. You get a discount if you take both. Dog plans pay up to 80% of bills with no cap on annual pay outs.

What does ManyPets pet insurance cover?

It’s horrible when your pet gets sick or hurt, but it’s worse if you can’t afford to pay vet bills or have to build up debt. Pet insurance can cover up to 100% of costs. Here’s what ManyPets covers.

How good is ManyPets’s customer service?

ManyPets rates well for customer service. There’s a live chat function on the site that answers a lot of questions, but you can call them Monday through Saturday. The agents are viewed as friendly and knowledgeable.

How do I contact ManyPets?

The best way to contact ManyPets is by phone on 1-888-978-5291 (Mon-Fri: 9am-9pm EST; Sat: 10am-6pm EST) but you can also email them (manyhelp@manypets.com for general enquiries or manyclaim@manypets.com for claims), live chat on the site, and message them on Instagram and Facebook.

What is ManyPets’s claims process?

The claims process is very simple. You pay the vet, email the claim, and ManyPets pays you up to 80% of the bill if it’s approved. Most of our reviewers agree that this usually happens quickly and the pay-out rate is high.

How much will ManyPets pay for my claim?

ManyPets pays the vet bill for your pet’s treatment minus the deductible and co-insurance you chose for your policy. Here are some examples.
Average Vet Bill Cash back w/ 70% Cash back w/ 80% Difference between 70% & 80%
Cancer $8,137 $5,695.90 $6,509.60 $813.70
Kidney Disease $7,098 $2,205.00 $2,520.00 $315
Swallowed Object $3,262 $2,283.40 $2,609.60 $326.2
Intestinal Obstruction $3,036 $683.20 $780.80 $97.6

Are there any exclusions?

All pet insurance policies have exclusions and ManyPets is no exception. It doesn’t cover routine or preventative care (though you can get this with the wellness add-on), non-FDA-approved medications, bilateral conditions, or most pre-existing conditions unless your pet has been symptom- and treatment-free for 18 months.

What are the waiting periods for conditions?

ManyPets has a waiting period of 15 days for both accident and illness, which is longer than some providers. However, if you switching from another insurer, ManyPets will reduce the accident and illness waiting periods to 24 hours. No other pet insurance provider does this. The waiting period for wellness plans is 24 hours.

How quickly does ManyPets pay claims?

The company doesn’t make and promises or give guidelines about the speed of its pay-outs, but customers seem to be happy. ManyPets also says it will keep you up to date on your claim’s process via email.

Can I customize my ManyPets plan?

In terms of what’s covered, there isn’t a lot of customization available. There’s the accident and illness plan, with the preventative and wellness add-on covering things like wellness exams, vaccines, routine dental cleaning, blood tests, parasite and heartworm testing, flea, tick and heartworm medications. However, co-pay and reimbursement levels – are flexible and can be customized to get the premium customers want.

State availability for ManyPets

ManyPets is currently available in 36 states and is expanding rapidly, but because claims don’t need to be pre-authorized, it pays out for treatment at any licensed veterinarian, specialist, or emergency clinic you choose in the US.

Verdict: Is ManyPets pet insurance good?

ManyPets is a welcome addition to the choice of pet insurance providers. It may not be revolutionary, but it seems to be a hit with reviewers, who praise the ease of communication. The website sets out in a nice clear way what you get and don’t get, and how to make claims. Price-wise it’s competitive but the lack of a telehealth service is something to bear in mind.
