What’s the best pet insurance – Healthy Paws or ManyPets?
Both companies are reputable pet insurance providers and it is difficult to say which is objectively better. ManyPets is newer on the scene, hailing from the UK, and currently available in fewer states than Healthy Paws, but both companies are popular with customers and offer different benefits to different pet parents. Here we’ll help you navigate through the wilderness so that you’re armed with as much information as possible. Once you’ve got the data, it’s your call and your call alone. We strongly suggest that you also use our super-speedy pet insurance quote page and review pages, which will help you decide which pet insurance plan is best for you. What do the plans cover?
ManyPets and Healthy Paws both offer accident and illness plans covering things like hereditary, congenital and chronic conditions. Healthy Paws will be able to cover alternative therapies, but ManyPets doesn't. Healthy Paws covers X-rays and prescription medication, as does ManyPets, but Healthy Paws won't pay for vet exam fees. Both offer end-of-life coverage and dental accidents but only ManyPets covers dental illness. ManyPets has an add-on wellness plan, which will cover routine preventative costs like your pet’s microchipping, neutering/spaying, vaccinations and more. The Healthy Paws coverage is more straightforward, with only one policy. Both main plans cover many common illnesses and conditions that a pet can suffer from, such as:- Arthritis
- Cancer
- Cataracts
- Cruciate injury
- Dental disease
- Dermatitis
- Diabetes
- Diarrhea
- Ear infections
- Hip dysplasia
- Gastroenteritis
- Kidney disease
- Limping
- Liver disease

Are there any exclusions?
Both Healthy Paws and ManyPets have the standard exclusion for pre-existing conditions. ManyPets, however, says that it only categorises something as pre-existing if it has required advice, treatment or medication in the last 18 months. ManyPets will include some bilateral conditions (e.g. hip dysplasia in one leg even if the other has had dysplasia), provided that the covered leg had no pre-existing signs. It doesn’t, however, cover hip dysplasia if the pet enrolled is six years or older. Exclusions in the Healthy Paws coverage include exam fees, wellness/preventative care, dental healthcare, behavioral treatment, among others. Healthy Paws includes hip dysplasia in its plan but, again, only if the animal is younger than six years old when it is registered. It’s always best to read the full list of exclusions before signing up for any pet insurance plan. How expensive are Healthy Paws and ManyPets?
Both ManyPets and Healthy Paws have an unlimited coverage cap, and prices that reflect this. Overall, ManyPets are likely to be a little cheaper out of the two. Neither company charges you for paying monthly but Healthy Paws – unlike ManyPets – requires an enrolment fee ($25). But the fees help it donate money to charity: via its foundation, Healthy Paws have given almost $2 million to homeless pets. Do Healthy Paws or ManyPets offer discounts?
Neither ManyPets nor Healthy Paws offer discounts. Are the plans customizable?
Both ManyPets and Healthy Paws have the same adjustable elements when it comes to tweaking premiums: three deductible amounts ($100, $250, $500) and reimbursement levels of 70%, 80% or 90%. Both come with unlimited annual coverage as standard. ManyPets also allows you to add its preventative care plan. How do I make claims?
Healthy Paws allows you to submit your claim in a range of ways: via post, email; the customer center section of its website, its app, or even by fax. Just send them the paid vet’s invoice and they’ll do the rest. If it’s your first claim, Healthy Paws asks that you send your pet’s medical records. ManyPets doesn’t have the option of an app but has a quick claims process with two options: calling the company or doing it online. Are they easy to contact?
They certainly are. ManyPets has myriad options: phone (888 978 5291), email, live website chat, and social media. Healthy Paws has a phone option (855 898 8991), a website contact form, social media, a 24/7 helpline on the app, and even a fax option.Customer reviews
Healthy Paws customers seem like cheery ones. They comment on the speed with which the company processes claims and the care they take with the wellbeing of their customers’ pets. A recurring theme is that people with pets don’t hesitate to take their animals to the vet when they have a health problem because they are confident of Healthy Paws paying them so efficiently. While ManyPets customers are glowing with praise for the service, it is impossible to ignore that there are some negative reviews that find fault with the company’s customer service. ManyPets is a young company, however, and much of this could be put down to teething problems.Frequently asked questions
People ask us a lot of different questions about the pet insurance providers we work with. It’s the smart thing to do because no two insurers are the same. Here are some common questions (and the answers!).What are the waiting periods?
Healthy Paws has a wait of 15 days for both accidents and illness. ManyPets is the same but if you’re switching from a different insurer, it's unique in offering to bring down those waiting periods to 24 hours in both instances.
Do the plans include behavioral treatments?
Neither company does.
Is there a maximum age for enrolment?
At ManyPets it’s 14, and at Healthy Paws it’s 13.
Do they need my pet’s medical records?
Yes, both will. Healthy Paws requires your pet’s full medical records for your first claim with them; ManyPets want medical records from the last 18 months.
Will the insurer pay the vet directly?
ManyPets won't but Healthy Paws might. If your vet is willing, both insurers will foot the bill via a direct pay scheme, which means that you only need pay what you owe depending on your deductible and reimbursement levels – if the claim is successful.
Is my pet covered in other countries?
Healthy Paws makes no mention of coverage in countries other than the US. ManyPets’ policies are only available to residents of 36 states but will cover you if you're in the US or visiting Canada.
Do they have a vet telehealth service?
ManyPets doesn’t but at Healthy Paws it’s 24/7.
